The United States on Sunday slammed China for "provocative" and "destabilizing" military activity, after Chinese fighter jets and bombers made their largest-ever incursion into Taiwan's air defense zone.
"The United States is very concerned by the People's Republic of China's provocative military activity near Taiwan, which is destabilizing, risks miscalculations, and undermines regional peace and stability," US State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement.
"We urge Beijing to cease its military, diplomatic, and economic pressure and coercion against Taiwan."
Beijing marked its National Day on Friday with its biggest aerial show of force against Taiwan to date, buzzing the self-ruled democratic island with 38 warplanes, including nuclear-capable H-6 bombers.
That was followed by a new record incursion on Saturday by 39 planes, said Taiwan, which accused Bejing of "bullying" and "damaging regional peace."
Former Labour MP Iain Wright has argued the "true reason" for the current energy crisis in the UK is the actions of China. He told GB News that the communist regime in Beijing has increased the import of Russian natural gas in order to feed the country's economic recovery from the Covid pandemic. Mr Wright argued that this move by China to switch to natural gas has strangled supplies to Europe and the UK fueling the current shortages.
Ms Truss, who replaced Dominic Raab as Foreign Secretary in the middle of September, adopted a firm stance on links with Beijing this afternoon.
She told the Conservative Party conference in Manchester: 'We will also be tough on those who don’t share our values and don’t play by the rules.
'It is important we trade with China, but we must make sure it is reliable trade, that it avoids strategic dependency and that it does not involve the violation of intellectual property rights or forced technology transfer.
