COMEDIAN GALLAGHER DIES AT 76
He made his mark in comedy using a sledgehammer to smash watermelons on stage.
His former manager confirmed his passing to “Variety” this morning, saying Gallagher had been in hospice care here in California after suffering several heart attacks in recent years.
Back in 1980, Gallagher became the first standup comedian to get a special on Showtime. He would go on to do a dozen more.
Gallagher spent almost four decades on the road, performing about 3,500 live shows in his career.
