Any street food tour in Adana, Turkey, has to include a stop for tostçu. Invented in Adana, this snack translates to iron toast, and is pretty much a whole loaf of bread filled with scrambled eggs, sucuk, tomatoes and cheese. With melted butter on top of it, this was the best way to start our day full of amazing Turkish food.
What truly makes the street food in Adana so extreme, is the amount of food that is native to the city and only found here. This massive selection of some of the best food to eat in Turkey was so eye-opening, we couldn’t believe the variety!
From lahmacun offered on a street cart by a second generation Usta, to taş kaymakli kadayıf and karakuş dessert, two special sweets found only in Adana, this city truly has some of the best food in Turkey.
One of the more popular foods to eat in Adana is yağlı kara. This kebap is a rare cut of lamb meat from the back of the animal that was so tender and juicy, it was crazy.
As one of the hottest cities in Turkey, Adana has a crazy amount of street food geared towards keeping you cool on those extreme days… not so much the case on our chilly visit, but we couldn’t leave without trying some of these cool street foods nonetheless! We had the massively famous banana milkshake at Kazim Büfe, followed by the refreshing bici bici; two extreme street foods, with interesting flavours, to keep you cool on those crazy hot days.
The last place we stopped to eat on our crazy street food tour in Adana, Turkey, was to try şırdan, the stuffed fourth stomach of a lamb, which is a super popular, late night street food in Adana. Şirdan is served up with a number of other offal treats, all of which we had to try, including the absolutely massive dana şırdan, or beef şirdan. This şırdan was massive, and truly something you have to see to believe. A massive şırdan feast was the only way to finish off some extreme street food in Turkey.
We hope you enjoy our crazy street food tour in Adana, Turkey. This city has some of the most extreme street food in Turkey, from special sweets and cart lahmacun, to the massive şırdan, Adana is one of the best Turkish cities for food!
