Spring Wheat, Saw Flies and Supper! Montana Spring Wheat Harvest 2021

In today's video we start out with the moisture meter to test the spring wheat. The moisture is around 9% so we are good to go. Dad gives me instructions on how to operate this 35-foot straight cut header. It is about the same as my 9610 that is for sure. We are harvesting in an area that has a lot of slopes and coulees. This is challenging. We are also seeing a lot of our crop on the ground from Saw Flies. We didn't think we were going to have the Saw Fly issue but we did. Dad thinks it might have paid to swath first because Uncle Chris thinks we are losing about 30% of our crop on the ground. I almost hit a power line! Yikes!!! Uncle Chris runs my combine for a bit and he thinks the rotor is taking off like a rocket! He can't get it to slow down. Dad's combine finally gets into the field and he has the same rotor problem. Finally, we get to eat and I show you what it's like to eat in the field!!! I hope you enjoy my video! Thank you for watching!

My Story…
Hello. My name is Kate Stephens, and I am a 17-year-old 4th generation Montana farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north-central Montana since my great grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was two years old. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm, and I hope that my Farm to Fashion and Farm to Table products can help educate people about where their food comes from in a fun way. That is how Kate's Ag - Farm to Fashion became a reality. I hope you love my products as much as I do because this is an extension of our farm and the grains we have been growing to feed other families for over one hundred years.
