In junior year, I had the biggest crush on this girl from my class. She was easily the hottest girl in school. I finally built up the courage to ask her out, and I couldn’t believe it when she said yes. She even called me cute. That night, I picked her up, and we flirted and laughed through dinner.

It was going better than I ever imagined. By the time I was driving her home, I could tell she was into me too. I pulled up in front of her house, and she gave me that look—like she wanted a kiss to end the night. So, I leaned in, but completely freaked out and ended up giving her this awkward hug instead. To this day, I’m still mad at myself for that.

She just smiled and got out to go inside. As I sat there, I realized what a mistake I’d just made. I quickly checked my hair, freshened my breath, and jumped out of the truck, determined to give her the kiss of a lifetime. I ran up, turned her around, and looked into her eyes.

But then I noticed this panicked look on her face. Before I could even ask, she pointed behind me. I turned around and, sure enough, my truck was rolling down the street. Seconds later, we heard a loud crash. It hit her dad’s brand new car. Explaining that to her dad? Easily the most awkward moment of my life. Unsurprisingly, there was no second date.
